  1. BLOG AS A TOOL TO ENHANCE READING SKILLS

    A. Students and Setting:
The researcher mainly focuses on improving reading proficiency. Learning a second
language is not an easy task. Reading is a difficult task to get mastery over the language.
Computer becomes the good companion of today’s learners. They were engaged with
computers more than classes. So the researcher chose that blog as a tool for improving
reading skill. The research has been carried out ten students of Sangamam College,
Gingee, Villupuram. Activities were given to the students to find out the difficulties of
the students. The researcher mainly focuses on the components of reading such as
vocabulary and comprehending. Before creating the blog the learners felt apprehension and
avoided to read in front of the audience. After creating blog their responses were good,
they gave some comments, posted by the researcher.
    B. Background:
Rural learners are not aware of blog. The learners from urban areas have blogs and
gain knowledge from edublogs. The rural learners have to get benefit by using blogs so
The researcher has chosen ‘blog’ as a tool for the present study. The learners will be
energetic and interested, while learning through blogs. Reading is one of the essential
skills to master the language. Whether reading is possible through blogs? This question
arises in the mind of the researcher. To find the answer for the above question, the
researcher got an idea to make a study on “Blog as a tool to enhance the reading skill”.
Blog is not only for chatting but also for improving the proficiency of the learners.

    C. Learning Objectives/Expected Results:

    GENERAL OBJECTIVES
 To make the students to understand the article.
 To help them to improve their reading skill.
    SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
 To make the learner familiar with blog
 To develop their vocabulary and comprehension.
 To create interest in reading through blog.
    EXPECTED RESULT
The learners find enjoinment to indulge in the activity. This activity increases the reading proficiency of the learners .At the end of this activity the learners will gain new experience in reading through blogs. Self learning and self evaluation will also be attained.

  7. To kanchana, i have read through your lesson plan, it is innovative but changes can be done in the part of sharing. In sharing their experience all the students in the class cannot be given opportunities and it takes time. so just confine it to 2 to 3 members who have already took part in cultural activity, so that the other students can have a clear picture and there will be time management because within 10 mins its not possible for all the students to share their experience.

  13. Hi smrithi... You had done your lesson plan very clearly. Well-done on doing it on a Grecian urn by utilizing technology into it. You need to make slight modifications in your lesson background. Add some more valuable points to it. Title up your lesson plan by mentioning the term techno into it.

  14. Hiii vinoth... I had viewed your lesson plan. It is done very crisp and short. Do mention your objectives and add reflection part and also mention whether you had achieved your objectives successfully.
Lesson plan on Robert frost poem is merely done very well!

  15. To kanchana , the objective has to be general or specific and has to b achieved in the given time.I think ur objective is too very ambitious. Within 60 minutes how can you teach art theory, techniques, nine rasa theory and aesthetics . Try to narrow down ur objective, it will b great

  16. To Radha,
What s d role of the teacher in the class.? Is it only a facilitator ? How will u assess the students n how ll u know that u have achieved ur objective?? U don't have to reply but try to make necessary changes ,...

  17. To Smrithi
Using Tablet in the classroom is good idea now a days few schools following this technology to reduce bag weight of the students .For your lesson plan you have been handled appropriate technology it is well-intentioned. And some correction you have to make the first reading of the poem should be given by the teacher then it will help the students to make correct expression of reading.

  18. To Shri varshini
I like your lesson plan its very excellent but what I felt for a particular time I think your objectives are too long to achieve it in an hour.

    ReplyDelete
  19. To Meera
As I said to Smirthi in your lesson plan also teacher should give first reading of the poem then asks students to listen to the recited video.

  20. To Amudha Bharati
Everything fine with your Lesson plan but some correction needed in activity g: Ask for feedback from the children to establish key information about each type of poem. In this section you did not mention whether it is group activity or individual and the getting feedback for untaught poem from high school students I think it is impossible in one class it seems. And also in the Worksheet section it is group activity so I think 25 minutes more than enough of time so you may manage time with some other activity.

    ReplyDelete
  21. To varshini
your lesson plan based on god of small things was good. your procedure and timings are very good , but you have not mentioned about the activity whether it is for group or individual. your lesson plan has indepth role to motivate students and to tell them about the social and political issues prevailing in India.

  22. To Rajakumari

please mention the background, what type of learners you have focused and reflection to get a clear idea. Your activities part was good but not clear, make it a step by step process.Mention the result of your lesson plan and also response and feedback from the students. Give your aim and objectives of lesson plan clearly and precisely.

  27. rather than marking it only based on rubric , i am goin little off the track on my comments. rubrics on my opinion is rather personal while it comes to excellent good and very good.

    To archana
    Dear Archana,
your topic for the lesson plan is quite technical to my opinion. and i remember being instructed that we assume us as teachers and not researchers as a researcher is not exactly a teacher. your references to teachers as researchers could be changed. and with the objectives, it is always better to use concrete terms than (to---) . even ma'm kept stressing on choice of vocabulary on objectives. your effort needs to be appreciated for all that foregrounding that you have done .

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dear varshini,
your lesson plan clearly gives a lot of input from it.. the topic seems quite interesting. while glancing through your objectives, i was reminded about our instructions on not using abstract words rather try concrete terms. the second link of objectives in our link gives clear examples. and while getting back to your age and setting of students info on institution not only the name but private/public university/college and heterogeneous /rural/urban seems missing.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dear Smrithi,
i found your materials quite resourceful and the motivation to the poem in the lesson background seems interesting. while reading through the age and setting criteria, i felt that there could be even more clear picture of background of students (rural or urban), though m-learning is introduced in school. previous English experiences could be their medium of instruction/ their exposure to the language in given years.

  30. Dear Meera,
i firstly need to appreciate your effort on bringing flipped classes in this lesson plan based on CALL. As you have dealt with flipped classroom module, i feel there need not be any reading aloud or explaining the poetry. as of to my knowledge i feel that is where flipped classes make a difference making the teacher a mere facilitator. and i am sure you have cited links of reciting the poem , also allowing students to summarize than teacher reading explaining and analyzing which makes it a normal classroom. And to talk bout your objectives , they could be little more substantiate on their outcomes.

  31. i am only reposting these comments which i have already sent to your personal id's.

    ReplyDelete
  32. dear kanchana,
the topic which you chose for the plan is quite challenging. kudos to that . but even i felt that you were little ambitious to bring out so many desired results specified in a short span as stated in previous comments.

    ReplyDelete
  33. dear radha,
your components and pacing of lesson plan is impressive. i guess again with the selection of vocabulary in objectives could be over viewed. and while pre reading activity, reading of poem becomes exhaustive if it runs for 18 minutes. so you could limit the timing of pre reading so long rather invest in some activity.

  34. Dear ramya,
Your lesson plan is different from others and it is excellent.Your emphasis on speaking skills has made the lesson plan even more thoughtful.

  35. Dear ramya,
Ur lesson plan s unique, usage of technology in developing d speaking skills is interesting.

  36. To archana ... . lesson plan is just a framework and anticipation. Lesson plan express ur intentions.. U can expect a favourable result after u execute d plan in ur class.. u can specify d result only after you observe the class. but why have u brought result in lesson plan. ..??

    ReplyDelete
  37. To archana.....In the lesson plan why have u included a pie chart.what does that represent?.your references to researchers can be changed to teachers.because our lesson plan is assigned for teachers.

  38. To Radha. Hi Radha I went through your lesson plan and it was really good the idea of teaching literary device through poem is good. You can also compare two poems to teach students as they can identify and understand it well.
